Recent years have seen awareness and knowledge grow about the sun’s effect on skin and the weaknesses in sun protection – both for skin and the environment. Laboratoire Bioderma has drawn on its 40 years of experience in biology and dermatology to renew its Photoderm range. It now empowers your skin to better defend itself in the sun and provides improved broad-spectrum protection.
All products in the Photoderm range are supported by four pillars that care for your skin within its ecosystem. You benefit from our new high-technology sun protection SUN ACTIVE DEFENSE, our dermatological skin care expertise, ingredients and formulation for all uses and climates, and respect for aquatic environments.
Despite the increase in the use of sunscreens offering a high sun protection factor (SPF), the number of skin cancers did not decrease correspondingly. The SPF factor makes reference to protection provided against UVB rays, which prevents skin from burning. However, dermatologists discovered that prolonged exposures to UVA rays are what weaken skin. UVA rays penetrate deeper and can cause oxidative stress, producing lesions that can turn into premature skin ageing and a risk of cancer. Sunscreens offering broad-spectrum protection, meaning UVB and UVA rays, are better at keeping skin healthy.
Photoderm goes beyond protecting skin from the sun. At the heart of each product is a desire to provide complete care for skin as well, by understanding its needs. To help prevent damage, all face sunscreen formulas provide SPF 50+ protection (except Photoderm AKN mat: SPF 30) and include a strong shield against UVA rays. For visible signs of an imbalance in skin, such as spots, redness or pigmentation problems, the Photoderm range offers face sunscreens that include a biological response with active ingredients that address the specific needs of each. All Photoderm products have been clinically tested and demonstrate proven effectiveness and tolerance for each type of skin.

Very Water-Resistant Body Products
All Photoderm body sunscreens meet the ‘Very Water Resistant’ certification, meaning the sun protection factor stays 50% above the stated number after four periods of bathing lasting 20 minutes each. After getting out of the water, they can be reapplied to wet skin, without whitening. This also means that Photoderm sunscreen stays on your skin, so that salt and freshwater environments are respected.
Protection for All Climates
The part of your body that is the most visible and expressive, your face, also receives the most sun exposure. Bioderma’s sunscreen products are formulated to be comfortable to wear in even the highest humidity and hottest conditions, without stinging the eyes.
As ecobiologists and a NAOS brand, Laboratoire BIODERMA pays particular attention to testing the ecotoxicity of finished formulas that are in direct contact with salt and freshwater ecosystems. All selected filters and final formulas have been tested on corals, marine algae and freshwater plankton, three species representative of aquatic biodiversity. NAOS commits to aquatic ecosystems in three ways:
Photoderm products are respectful of aquatic ecosystems: both fresh and salt water, and have minimal impact on both corals, marine algae and freshwater plankton.
NAOS assesses each ingredient’s ecotoxicological profile, including UV filters, and scrupulously selects those that will minimise a product’s impact on the environment. NAOS’ long-term objective is to increase skin’s natural ability to protect itself from the harmful effects of the sun and continues to search for new ingredients that can be used in sun protection products.

Drawing the eye and easy to read, Photoderm’s new packaging gives you concise information to help you find the right sunscreen for your skin in the right tint. SUN ACTIVE DEFENSE is incorporated into most of the Photoderm range products. You have an extensive range of sun care products for your face and body to choose from, adapted to the whole family.
Sun protection reinforced against UVA, this new product suits even the most sensitive skin, including pregnant or breastfeeding mums, babies 12 months or older, and patients undergoing sensitising/cancer treatments. Providing eight hours of moisturising, it is very water-resistant, sweat- and sand-resistant and is easy to apply to wet skin. With a Yuka score of 90/100, it is the perfect all-purpose product to use at the beach, at the city or countryside.
Offering the greatest blue light protection available on the market*, Photoderm M is specially formulated to control and reduce hyperpigmentation, dark spots and melasma (pregnancy mask). The powdery gel-cream texture is resistant to heat and high humidity. It offers high coverage in three tints thanks to a high concentration of pigments. Comfortable to wear, you won’t hesitate to apply it daily, reducing your melasma relapses.

The sensory gel-cream formula reduces spots, hyperpigmentation and wrinkles thanks to specific active ingredients. Vitamins C and E lighten your skin and protect against new spots forming, and reduce oxidative stress. Centella Asiatica helps to reduce wrinkles. The long-term moisturising means it’s pleasant to wear all day long and all year long.
For acne-prone skin, skin with blemishes and combination to oily skin, this sunscreen acts on spots and leaves a matte and invisible finish. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid provide a keratolytic action to help unplug pores and prevent new spots from developing, and the Fluidactiv™ patent improves sebum quality, regulates sebum production, reduces imperfections day after day.
For sensitive skin, prone to permanent or temporary redness, small visible blood vessels and rosacea, this is an anti-redness sunscreen that unifies and soothes. The Rosactiv™ complex helps to reduce redness and prevents the appearance of new rashes.
Say goodbye to skin reactions to chemical filters and perfume. The 100% mineral filters in this sunscreen guarantee that it will be fully tolerated by your sensitive and light-intolerant skin. Vitamin E also strengthens your antioxidant protection during sun exposure. The texture is ultra-fluid and light.
